In many parts of the world, which religion you believe in is an important part of your identity. Identity is the idea of who you perceive yourself to be.

Someone may attend a Christian church every week, or be a Buddhist
and go to the temple frequently. However, according to the "Japanese
National Character Survey," the latest survey conducted every five years by the Institute of Statistical Mathematics (2013), 28% of respondents
believe in a particular religion, while 72% do not. The percentage of
those who do not believe in a particular religion is 28%, and 72% of
those who do not. When you look at the percentage of religions in Japan,you will notice that 7 out of 10 people consider themselves non-religious.
How many countries have such a majority of non-religious people, with
only six out of 232 countries according to the International Pew Research Center, published in 2014?
In Japan, all religions have never been banned by the state or political
parties. During the Edo period (1603-1867), Christianity was banned but required registration as a Buddhist instead. During the Meiji period (1868-1912), Buddhism was ostracized, but Shintoism was encouraged as the state religion. It has also been 70 years since the Constitution enacted
after World War II established freedom of religion. However, the majority of Japanese are not interested in religious beliefs.
But in the majority of the world's countries, which religion you believe in is an important part of your identity. Which religion you believe in
determines how you act, what festivals you hold, what kind of weddings and funerals you have, and what age you are considered to be an
adult.
